The main
goals of The United Nations
Conference on Trade and Development are to maximize the trade,
investment and development opportunities of developing countries, and
to help them both to face challenges arising from globalization and to
integrate into the world economy on an equitable basis.
Global Trade Watch
is the Public Citizen division that fights for international trade and
investment policies promoting government and corporate accountability,
consumer health and safety, and environmental protection through research,
lobbying, public education and the media. Global Trade Watch is on the
cutting edge of research and advocacy in the field of international trade
and investment.
Microcredit
The
Foundation for International Community Assistance, launched in
1984, now serves more than 110,000 poor families in 17 countries. "Our
mission is to support the economic and human development of families trapped
in severe poverty."
ACCION International
is a non-profit that fights poverty through microlending. Every day, millions
of enterprising women and men struggle to better their lives by opening
tiny businesses. They work exhausting hours yet they barely scrape by.
What they need to break free is a little credit - a loan as small as $75.
Now they can get it.
The Microcredit
Summit works to ensure that 100 million of the world's poorest
families, especially the women of those families, are receiving credit
for self-employment and other financial and business services by the year
2005.

Food
First is a member-supported, nonprofit 'peoples' think tank and
education-for-action center. "Our work highlights root causes and value-based
solutions to hunger and poverty around the world, with a commitment to
establishing food as a fundamental human right."
Second Harvest
is the largest charitable hunger relief organization in the United States.
"Our mission is to feed hungry people by soliciting and distributing food
and grocery products through a nationwide network of certified affiliate
food banks and to educate the public about the nature of and solutions
to the problem of domestic hunger."
The Food Research and Action
Center is a leading national organization working to improve public
policies to eradicate hunger and undernutrition in the United States.
FRAC seeks to harness our nation's resources on behalf of those in our
country who are least able to provide for themselves. Hunger not only
reduces a child's ability to learn, but also decreases a worker's productive
energy, and weakens an elderly person's resistance to disease.
At The Congressional
Hunger Center we "fight hunger by developing leaders" at the local,
national, and international levels. 26 million Americans, including 12
million children, experience hunger on a regular basis. A billion more
are hungry or severely malnourished overseas. Hunger is not complex and
solutions are within our grasp.
thehungersite.com
On this site you can donate food to the hungry. Your donation of rice,
wheat, maize or other staple food adds to over 200 metric tons of free
food donated weekly. Recent totals have been over 1 million cups a day.
"It is our hope and goal to increase the amount of food that you are able
to donate. Each sponsor on this page pays for 1/4 cup of food and so the
more sponsors, the more food you donate." 100% of what sponsors pay goes
directly to the United Nations World Food Program.
