"Language is a cracked drum on which we beat out tunes for bears to dance to -- while all the time we long to move the stars to pity."

Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud

The Koran exhorts the faithful to observe the stars and planets, but few Muslims have come as close to touching them as Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia.

The first Arab in space, Sultan bin Salman was a Payload Specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery's June 1985 flight, which launched a satellite designed to improve communications among Arab countries.
