His Holiness the Dalai Lama
The Norwegian Nobel Committee, in awarding the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize to
the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, stated that the Dalai Lama "has
developed his philosophy of peace from a great reverence of all things
living and upon the concept for universal responsibility embracing all
mankind as well as nature." The Dalai Lama continues to live, since
1959, in exile in India, following the 1950 Chinese invasion of
Tibet.
